Meet The Balaclava Ski Mask Of Your Dreams
Hello, winter enthusiasts! It's your favorite winter companion Ponyclava here, to share how we can make your snowy adventures even more enjoyable.
What is the Ponyclava? Only the best ski balaclava out there! It's got ventilation at the nose and mouth so that your goggles don't fog up. It's made from a lightweight, soft fabric that provides warm, breathable protection and fits under your ski helmet. And its claim to fame is a ponytail hole, specifically placed to not interfere with your helmet adjustment strap.
To state the obvious:
- If you're looking for a ski or snowboard balaclava for women, you are who we made this for.
- You do not need a ponytail to use the Ponyclava. It will work great either way.
- If you're a guy with a man bun (or a girlfriend with long hair) you're definitely in the right place!
- If you just want a general winter face mask, why not have one that can also do the job if you decide to go skiing?
- If you're already sold on the whole thing, you can grab one here.
Now that that's out of the way.
Ahh, winter. The best time of year.
The world is (hopefully soon to be) draped in a sparkling blanket of snow... well at least until it turns to slush.
And if you are eternally optimistic like us, it's filled with opportunities for cold-weather activities.
We are here to ensure you can fully immerse yourself without any distractions caused by mouthfuls of hair. So buckle up - we're going to explore three popular winter activities and see how the Ponyclava can enhance your day.
3 Winter Activities Made Better With Ponyclava
Tame Your Mane on the Slopes!
Toss your hair and it may smell like a tropical beach! But even with the best-smelling shampoo… nobody wants to deal with eating their hair while ripping down the mountain.
It's a common frustration for those of us who have long hair and wear a balaclava or ski mask to keep our faces warm, dry, and out of the elements. Your hair goes into the back of it and then it works its way around the front of your mask and into your mouth. And then you are wasting time fixing your hair while the elements bluster around you.
That's where Ponyclava comes to the rescue! Our innovative, ponytail-friendly ski balaclava ensures your ponytail stays out of your face, so you can focus on conquering the mountain. No more distractions of annoying hair in your mouth!
Confession: We've really only been able to do grey and black balaclavas so far. But we live for bright colours and we're hoping to do more fun colours and patterns soon.
Glide Through Nature with Grace and Ease
We LOVE cross-country skiing because it's a serene and beautiful activity that lets you immerse yourself in nature while getting a great workout. And just like downhill skiing, you'll want your face out of the elements no matter what the weather is like.
Rain or snow? Wet face no fun.
Sunny or windy? Windchill or sunburn, no thank you.
That means one thing: a balaclava, or some other ski mask. Except if you have long hair, you've probably encountered the struggle of keeping it under control while wearing said face mask.
The last thing you want is your long hair turning into an unruly mess, blocking your vision or getting in your mouth.
The second last thing you want is your glasses or goggles fogging up because whatever face mask you're wearing doesn't let air escape.
The Ponyclava solves both these problems! It ensures your hair stays out of the way so you can enjoy the tranquility of cross-country without any annoyances. And its breathable fabric plus adjustable nose and mouth ventilation ensures that you won't overheat as you exert yourself on the trails.
What else? It's snug fit and moisture-wicking properties keep you warm and dry, even during intense sessions. It's long enough to tuck into your collar (and stay put!) so you can keep your neck warm.
Worry less about your hair getting in your face from time to time and more about gliding through that snow!
With Ponyclava, your escapades become even more enjoyable.
Explore, Uninterrupted.
Snowshoeing is a fantastic way to explore the serene beauty of winter landscapes at your own pace.
And whether you're headed to hit one of the many trails in Kananaskis, Alberta or making the small drive from Portland to Mount Hood, Oregon, you want your outings to be as hassle-free as possible.
Now picture this. You're enjoying the scenery and BAM, your hair has come round to say hello! Now you're focused on fiddling with it, retucking the pony, and your pony-less company is stuck waiting for you or has left you behind to be charged by a moose… buzzkill, right?! We are worked up just thinking about it!
You must know the answer by now. YUP, it's Ponyclava, your trusty ponytail-friendly face mask companion for snowshoeing adventures too.
Confidently traverse through snowy trails, taking in the breathtaking scenery without any hair-related distractions.
We are really struggling to come up with more variations on this theme here, but you probably get the picture by now!
What is a Balaclava Ski Mask and Why Should I Wear One?
Dictionary definition: A balaclava is a versatile and essential piece of gear for outdoor activities in cold weather. It's a type of ski mask, but unlike the old-school 'ski face mask' you may be thinking of - which covers the lower half of the face only - a balaclava provides full coverage for the entire head, face, and neck.
Balaclavas come in various styles and designs. Some can be used as a full face mask, half face mask, or even as a neck gaiter. So, whether you're skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, hiking, or doing any other winter sport, a balaclava is super versatile, comfortable, and useful.
That being said, it's not a winter hat, beanie, or toque. Like a winter hat, it will cover your head... but also your face. And if you have one with a hinged design and pull it down around your neck from time to time to use it as a neck warmer, it won't cover your head anymore!
Fabric, Cold Weather Protection, and Other Bits and Pieces
The balaclava's reason for existing? To keep your cherubic cheeks out of the elements. It shields your face, head, and neck from harsh winds, freezing temperatures, snow, rain, and ice, and windburn, and sunburn. Keep it up, and it keeps your face warm; pull it backwards and drop it down, and it turns into a neck warmer, especially if it's hinged.
Most ski balaclavas are made from breathable materials that are also soft, insulating, and odor-resistant. Usually, these are either a synthetic fabric or something natural like merino wool, similar to what's used for base layers and sometimes for accessories like ski socks. Within the synthetics, fleece is one of the most common materials, and other tech fabrics are also widely used.
Despite being made from lightweight materials, all of these ski and snowboard masks also provide sun protection - not just because they are an extra layer between you and the elements, but because the fabrics are inherently UV-blocking. It's easy to forget that UV can still damage your skin even in colder months. In fact, it can be worse because during certain periods of time, because the sun's rays reflect off the snow and end up being more intense.
Just keep in mind that even though balaclavas and ski masks are made from warm materials, they won't be entirely water resistant. The thing is, materials that are water resistant are usually not very breathable - and that's not great for something that you'll actually be, well, breathing into.
Conclusion? A ski mask is a perfectly good general purpose winter mask and is actually useful for anyone participating in winter outdoor activities.
